Bangladesh Parliament House is one of the most modern architecture in the world. Our National Parliament building is one of the most unique features of modern 20th century architecture.
At that time, during the reign of Pakistan, the then military government of Pakistan adopted a plan to make Sher-e-Bangla Nagar a second capital and build a second Parliament building there. From that idea, the plan of constructing the first existing parliament building complex was adopted in the 5th. In 7, 20 acres of land on the north side of the present Manik Mia Avenue was acquired for the second capital project. The original plan of the building was passed in 12th.
When the then government sought the help of Bangladeshi architect Mazharul Islam to implement the project, he sought to take the world-renowned architects in this project. When he first proposed to famed architects Alvar Alto and Lai Corbusier, they were both busy, and later he proposed another famous architect, Louis Kahn, who was a teacher of Mazharul Islam at Yale University. When US architect Louis I. Kahn agreed, he was first asked to draft the draft, and he was formally appointed on March 12.
The final design of the building was made in 122 and construction began in 3. Initially, the cost of constructing the building was US $ 1 million, which, with all the benefits, went to US $ 12 million when construction was finished in 12 years. The entire Parliament House area included the main Parliament House, Parliament House, hostels of ministers and secretaries, guest buildings and community buildings, roads, walkways, gardens and lakes. Although the initial design included the Supreme Court, the President’s residence and the mosque, the design was changed with the view that the attraction of the main building did not decrease. It was decided to move these buildings away from the parliament building area.
Work began on the main building in 1, but the main infrastructure was completely closed during the independence war of the year. After the independence of the country, the government of Bangladesh decided to allow the construction work to be completed without any change in the final design.
Architect Louis Kahn sought to ensure maximum use of sunlight in the design of the National Assembly building. Moreover, he has paid considerable attention to the design of the rain. Geometric triangles, rectangles, flats, squares and entire circular arches on the outside side of the building have made the movement of air inside the building seamless. The architect has consciously avoided the traditional window-setting system. The building stands as a unique example of modern architecture in architectural style.
No columns were used in the construction of the building, huge gaps were used in the building to overcome the difficulty of the architecture. However, in order to balance the design structure, a blank column has been set up somewhere. The most striking part of the ear design was how to illuminate the whole building using natural light.
The main building is divided into nine main sections. Of these, eight are 1.8 m high and the central octagonal block is 5.25 m high, which is used as an assembly room with 4 seats. Floor area of the entire complex is 1,9,22.25 sq m, which includes 1,3.25 sq m in the main building, 27,3.7 sq m in the south plaza, and the north plaza area is 9.5 sq. Meters.
The Parliament House complex is decorated with greenery. It has a charming green grass garden. Along the lake, the building was surrounded, as if the whole building was floating on water. There are rows of eucalyptus and blackwoods around.
There is an amphitheater in the complex area, so that various state-of-the-art events are completed. There are also hostels, residential buildings and roads. The building is made up of 3 stairs, 3 toilets, 5 doors, 3 windows.
The architecture of the Parliament House in Bangladesh has been praised in various established periodicals, periodicals and magazines. In its own specialty, the list of modern architectural designs of the twentieth century has been erected by Louis Kahn, which stands as a symbol of the independence, sovereignty and democracy of the people of Bangladesh. We are proud to have been awarded the Aga Khan Architecture Award for its distinctive, architectural style.
